hello well there's many things to consider in this case screening requirements, upgrade path <free or costly point upgrades>, plates, plate availability, service, back-up, price per sq foot for plates, what the software can and cant do that you need <handle pdf 1.6's for example...or create a file for a proof> does the adobe pdf print engine need to be something you need to consider (no point in buying out of date stuff and have to re-invest in a few months time) so, my advice would be to create a list of what you NEED, check off what each vendor can and cannot do for you and see where the dice land ... - Read More..

It sounds like the press ICC profile that the Epson 7800 is running with, has too large a gamut for your press guys to match. Has somebody created an ICC profile for that press? Or are the press guys running to a standard like SW OP ANSI CGATS-TR001. Without getting into a whole bunch of colour theory and profiling wafflegab, you need to know what target the press is running to. From what a salesman said at GraphExpo the NexPress M700 has more user-replaceable components than a Canon ImagePress C7000VP. He says it, the Kodak will deliver us greater uptime and productivity. Kodak says that with their solution there will be less service calls. we just use font book on our macs, no other font management software other than a script that runs a checksum against a master font repo .zip file and loads up the fonts. But in your case, 80 fonts is nothing our designers have 1000 fonts loaded or more all the time. AFP is a performance hog and I wouldn't be shocked to hear it randomly deletes file on an Xserve. I feel your pain! We have the same problem with screens and the best advice I can give is find a CMYK equivalent and print that so you get less evident rough edges. They idea is to get CMYK running across the whole page where there is color. That way you never get halos (usually magenta are the worst) and it hides the rough screen. Also, don't use thin fonts. Trebuchet should be fine, but adding a 0.01 stroke in the font color could help some too. Pantone Spots or straight CMYK won't matter, it's just the way the IGEN is. good luck, Bob - Read More..

the company who do the service and repair on the raptor have been on site every time, and it was they who called Fuji in, which shows some independent thought when a problem is beyond what they have come across - I'm all for that !
