and as for pdf creator creating a decent pdf from a quack file containing a dcs2 file - i'd like to see that since its not possible from quack unless you go as seperated postscript, but third party software and recombine those seps or use indesign...... my "workflow" is the same though joe - once a job is complete, it is archived. any repeates and we load the layout, fonts etc and away - no trapping - its already done - no nothing but rip, proof and plate - well - when i get ctp it will be - repeats are dig out old film and plate _ expertise: nothing - Read More..

sgc, let me add some comments to the ones from my collegue Mark T. It is most important that you do not start thinking about Colormatching from the PDF stage onwards only Ò you have to start right from the application and do the correct settings there. For example: In Photoshop you can (and should) define your target press profile in the color settings. Select the profile also in the Proof Setup menu to simulate the output on your screen. When you than open or create a new image you should make sure that it is created in the press profile colorspace. When then saving it as EPS, make sure that you sele... - Read More..

Just make files in your doccument size with marks and bleeds. The document base page can be resized in Acrobat without any hassle. I mean, make a 100 page PDF from Indy in 8.5" x 11". Open it in Acrobat and go to Document->Crop Pages-> and change page size to your desired one - say 11" x 17" and the whole PDF will sit neatly in the centre of the new size! Hi, We have 2 CTcP's ( unfortunately) in our setup. Also we have 2 more CTP's devices, one is Trendsetter which we are using for almost 8 years and Topsetter more than 4.5yrs. Both CTPs are outstanding and require very minimal service. The output quality of the CTcP is not upto the Standard Printing quality. Definitely the plate is cheaper so your ROI is faster. But considering the fact the speed, resolution, spares, service and operator skills the savings is less. The speed depends on the plate size, lamp life, sensistivity of the coating, image area, chemical strength etc. So its very difficul... - Read More..

Many of us would be happy to pay reasonable prices to unlock a trial version distributed as shareware, rather than this cumbersome method. I am involved in digital graphics production occasionally, for profit but as a sideline business, so I cannot justify the $400-$600 packages, but I'm sure this will be worth something for me.
